Full Circle: The Story of 100 Mile Table, Bay Grocer and Homey

For Sarah and Jeremy, food has never simply been about what's on the plate. It's about bringing people together, creating memories and building spaces where connection happens naturally.

While many locals first came to know them through Bay Grocer, the story actually began more than a decade ago with the original 100 Mile Table. Located at the eastern end of Banksia Drive, the café and catering business was built around communal dining, shared recipes and a genuine love of good food.

"It was such a pleasure watching people discover new recipes and gather around the table," Sarah recalls.

Several years later came Bay Grocer, adding another layer to the couple's evolving relationship with food. Through the store, they developed a deeper understanding of what people wanted to cook and eat at home, while continuing to champion quality produce and local connection.

That insight eventually led to Homey, their take-home meal concept.

"Homey isn't just about solving the 'what's for dinner?' question," says Sarah. "It's about eating well. Home-style food cooked by professional chefs that can be a simple midweek meal or the foundation of a dinner party."

Today, Homey and 100 Mile Table sit side by side in their new Banksia Drive space, bringing together everything Sarah and Jeremy have learnt along the way. Homey's kitchen operates alongside a carefully curated cookware store, while 100 Mile Table continues to host cooking classes, private dining experiences and food-focused events.

Although Bay Grocer, Homey and 100 Mile Table each serve a distinct purpose, they're connected by the same philosophy. Bay Grocer centres around quality ingredients and everyday connection, 100 Mile Table focuses on gathering and shared experiences, and Homey brings comfort, ease and thoughtful meals into people's homes.

"In many ways, we've come full circle back to where we started - whilst gathering knowledge, know-how and a new business or two along the way."

The way Sarah cooks and hosts has been shaped by years spent learning from producers, chefs, restaurateurs and home cooks. Extensive travel through Asia left a lasting impression, while Australian produce and coastal living continue to influence the way she cooks today. More than anything, she's inspired by people who know how to make others feel welcome around a table.

That philosophy is reflected throughout the store. Sarah's favourite pieces range from hibachi grills and Japanese charcoal to Grit flameware and an ever-growing collection of cookbooks. "I'm quietly crushing on Lankan Filling by O Tama Carey right now," she says. The host in her is equally drawn to the linen tablecloths — simple pieces designed to make gathering feel special.

In the kitchen, her approach is equally uncomplicated. Recent rainy weekends have been spent making chilli jam, ginger shallot oil and fresh bread, while weeknight dinners are built around seasonal vegetables, nourishing broths and good olive oil.

"Simple food," Sarah says. "That's what I always come back to."

"Watching people gather around the table, celebrate milestones, learn something new or simply slow down and enjoy a meal together has been incredibly special."

Looking ahead, Sarah and Jeremy are excited to continue growing the space through classes, long-table dinners and seasonal events that bring people together through food.

"The most rewarding part has been seeing people embrace the space so warmly," says Sarah. "Watching people gather around the table, celebrate milestones, learn something new or simply slow down and enjoy a meal together has been incredibly special."

More than a kitchen, store or dining room, the space has become a place where food, hospitality and connection come together — a fitting next chapter for a journey that began around a communal table many years ago.
