PUESTO: Objects for an Endless Summer

Puesto was never intended to be a conventional store. It began instead as a feeling — the kind you carry home in your bag after a long holiday. Named after the Spanish word for market or stall, Puesto is an ode to the summer souvenir shop: a space to discover, gather, and return to, again and again.

Founded by Brigette Clarke, Puesto is shaped by her long-standing relationship with travel, seasonality, and the small rituals that make summer linger. At its heart is an ever-shifting curation driven by instinct rather than trend — favourite brands from around the world sitting alongside local artisans and small businesses, united by a shared affection for summer and the unhurried pace that comes with it. Nothing here is fixed. Puesto is deliberately fluid, designed to evolve as memories are made.

The story traces back to Terry Towelling, now Terry Puesto, an in-house brand approaching eight years old. With its inherently seasonal rhythm, the idea of a summer towelling pop-up had long lived quietly in the background. When Puesto Market launched online, the move toward a physical space felt inevitable. Banksia Drive, already home to the brand’s HQ and warehouse for many years, offered a sense of continuity. Opening the doors to the Byron Bay community felt like a natural extension — an offering to a place that understands and lives the idea of an endless Australian summer.

Inside Puesto, the aesthetic is shaped by the pleasure of small things — an Italian beach bag for the season, a trinket that recalls somewhere you’ve been, a scent that returns you to a sun-heavy afternoon. Each piece holds a memory, or the promise of one still to come. A quiet thread of 70s summer runs throughout: sandy textures, sun-washed tones, and an ease that feels lived-in rather than styled, grounded by a life spent close to the ocean.

Puesto sits naturally among its neighbours at 17 Banksia Drive, part of a considered mix of women-led businesses whose offerings speak to one another.

Collaboration runs through the store as a constant thread. From shell candles poured by the Puesto team using local beeswax, to one-of-a-kind sun hats made with a Melbourne maker using vintage towels, to regional partnerships that continue to unfold. Most recently, Puesto collaborated with long-standing local business The Good Oil to create a Hydration Oil designed to restore skin before and after time in the sun — softly scented to evoke a perfect summer holiday.

Stepping inside is meant to feel familiar. A vintage tiki bar, an old boat sail, raffia ceilings and scallop shell details recall post-swim afternoons and surf shacks from childhood. The intention is simple: to feel at ease, at home — and perhaps to leave with a small piece of that feeling as a souvenir.

Puesto continues to evolve, shaped by travel, surroundings, and the ongoing search for the unique. For now, it remains grounded in the season. Summer is still the guiding force — days by the ocean, time with family and friends, and the quiet joy of watching everyone live their own version of a holiday.
