House of Surfaces brings Global Design Trends Home

Founded in 2014 by Monique Crawford, House of Surfaces elevates the design experience on Banksia Drive. They offer a meticulously curated selection of high-quality surfaces alongside the expertise of their experienced interior designers. From an array of surface selections to 3D drawings, their team goes beyond aesthetics, providing technical insights to ensure flawless execution.

What is the purpose and driving mission of your business?

Our mission is to make the selection process of surfaces easy and enjoyable. We offer a curated selection of surfaces and the assistance of experienced interior designers to provide advice not only on style and colour but on technical considerations as well.

When you started your House of Surfaces, what was the lightbulb moment, insight, or observation that compelled you to build your brand?

A milestone would be seeing all the beautiful projects locally we have supplied surfaces for and being featured in multiple editorials. In 2019, we had the pleasure of going to Italy and attending Milan Design Week to see new products being released in the design space.

Reflecting on the path from conception to the current state of your business, it's clear that it hasn't been without its challenges. How do you maintain your motivation to keep making and creating?

I stay motivated by surrounding myself with like-minded people: my staff, designers and architects. My partner Deric owns a tiling installation business called DP Tile and Stone. He motivates me to push my limits, as we know the industry all too well, and this shared ground allows us to bounce off each other.

What attracted you to Banksia Drive as the home of your business?

We made the move from Centennial Circuit five years ago as we wanted a new minimal showroom to represent our brand and to be surrounded by industry-leading brands.

What are the benefits of being part of a creative community of makers, creators and doers?

We all support each other. We refer business to each other and have open conversations about how business is going in both good and quiet times.
